"We have had the honour of producing great and exceptional minds who have made their marks and who today occupy the commanding heights of economic, politics and social landscape withinand outside Nigeria".
Prof. Fagbohun reminded the matriculating students of the oath of allegiance to the University which they took, saying they must contribute positively to the development and success of the University. "The process of matriculation which you are undergoing today is a demonstration of the adoption of student's duties and obtaining of student's rights. It is upon matriculation that your name is entered into the register of the University, and at which point you become a proud member of the University. You pledge to respect all constituted authorities, abide by the laws, rules and regulations of the University and to positively support your institution at all times", he added.
The Vice Chancellor informed the audience in the capacity filled auditorium that the 2015/2016 admission exercise was transparent and largely merit driven. He told the Four Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fourteen [4,714] newly admitted students, that they must realise the very enviable position they occupy as students of the Institution.
Professor Fagbohun reeled out the expectations of the Management from the students which include dedication to academic work, strict adherence to regulations, procedures to studies, amongst others. He admonished them to shun all negative vices of cultism, prostitution, indecent dressing, involvement in drugs and other criminal activities. He averred that such acts could lead to suspension or premature termination of studentship. He congratulated the Parents and Family members of the new students. He thanked them for supporting their wards to this level and pleaded they should not relent on their oars in constantly counselling the young men and women.
He equally thanked the Governor, Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for his determination in providing qualitative education in Lagos State and the University, especially, accreditation of various programmes and development of infrastructure. Thereafter, the matriculating students were presented by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Rilwan Mustapha as follows:
Faculty of Arts, Education, Engineering, Law, Management Sciences, College of Medicine, Science, Social Sciences, School of Communication, School of Transport to the Vice Chancellor. Then, they all took the matriculation pledge as administered by the Acting Registrar and each representative of the students from the Faculties, College and Schools signed the matriculation register on behalf of their colleagues.
In his remarks, the outgoing Dean, Students' Affairs, Prof. Kabir Akinyemi counselled the students on academic excellence and attitude. He advised them to shun all negative vices. Prof. Akinyemi told the newly admitted students that the Students' Affairs is primarily to cater for their welfare. He wished them a successful academic sojourn at the University.
The matriculation was declared closed by the Vice Chancellor.
