Description:
Introduction:
The increasing rate of graduate unemployment in Nigeria has raised concerns about the relevance of university education to the demands of the contemporary labour market. Marketing Education is expected to equip graduates with employability skills and entrepreneurial competence that enable them to secure employment, create employment opportunities and adapt effectively to changing workplace conditions. However, possessing employability skills and entrepreneurial competence may not automatically translate into successful employment outcomes. Career adaptability may provide the mechanism through which graduates convert acquired competencies into meaningful employment. This study therefore investigates the relationship among employability skills, entrepreneurial competence and graduate employment, with career adaptability serving as a mediating variable.
Objectives:
The study will examine the relationship between employability skills, entrepreneurial competence and graduate employment among Marketing Education graduates in Nigerian universities. Specifically, it will determine the influence of employability skills and entrepreneurial competence on graduate employment and examine whether career adaptability mediates their relationships with graduate employment.
Methodology:
A correlational research design will be adopted. The population will comprise Marketing Education graduates of selected Nigerian universities. A representative sample will be selected using an appropriate multistage sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire subjected to expert validation and reliability testing. Descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) will be employed to analyse the data and test the proposed hypotheses.
Expected Results:
The study is expected to establish that employability skills and entrepreneurial competence significantly predict graduate employment. Career adaptability is also expected to significantly mediate the relationships between these competencies and graduate employment.
Contribution to Knowledge:
The study will contribute to knowledge by providing empirical evidence on how employability skills and entrepreneurial competence influence employment outcomes among Marketing Education graduates. It will further establish the mediating mechanism of career adaptability, thereby extending existing employability and entrepreneurship models. The findings will provide a basis for curriculum improvement, graduate career development and university–industry collaboration in Nigerian Marketing Education.
