Topic: SCIENCE EDUCATION & CURRICULUM
Description:
Introduction:
The rapid advancement of science, technology and artificial intelligence is transforming how knowledge is produced, taught and applied. This creates an urgent need for science education researchers and curriculum scholars to rethink what learners should know, how science should be taught, and how curricula can remain relevant to emerging societal needs. The study will examine contemporary approaches to advancing science education curriculum, with particular attention to learner-centred pedagogy, technological integration, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and the development of competencies required for participation in a rapidly changing society.
Aim/Objectives:
The study aims to investigate how science education curricula can be redesigned and implemented to improve learners' scientific knowledge, skills, attitudes and readiness for future challenges. Specifically, it will examine existing curriculum gaps, identify innovative pedagogical and technological approaches, and propose a framework for strengthening science education curriculum development and implementation.
Methodology:
A mixed-methods research approach will be adopted, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Data will be obtained from science teachers, curriculum experts and relevant education stakeholders through questionnaires, interviews and document analysis. Appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics, alongside thematic analysis, will be used.
Expected Results:
The study is expected to identify significant gaps in current science education curriculum and generate evidence-based strategies for curriculum renewal and effective implementation.
Contribution to Knowledge/Society:
The study will contribute to science education and curriculum scholarship by proposing a context-responsive framework for curriculum advancement. It will support teachers, curriculum developers, policymakers and education institutions in preparing learners with relevant scientific competencies for a technology-driven and increasingly complex society.
