Cultural Shifts and Marital Attitudes: A Counseling Psychology Analysis of Western Cultural Influence on Lagos State University Female Students

Research Details

Introduction: The increasing influence of Western culture on African societies has led to significant changes in traditional values and attitudes, particularly towards marriage. This study aims to investigate the impact of Western cultural influence on marital attitudes among female students at Lagos State University.Aims/Objectives: The objectives of this study are1. To examine the influence of Western culture on marital attitudes among female university students.2. To identify the factors contributing to changes in marital attitudes among this population.3. To explore the implications of these changes for counseling psychology practice.Methodology:This study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods. A survey questionnaire will be administered to 100 female students at Lagos State University, while in-depth interviews will be conducted with 20 participants.Expected Results: The study expects to find a significant influence of Western culture on marital attitudes among female university students, with factors such as social media, education, and peer influence contributing to these changes.Contribution to Knowledge/Society: This study contributes to the existing literature on the impact of Western cultural influence on African societies, particularly in the context of marital attitudes. The findings of this study will inform counseling psychology practice, providing insights into the development of culturally sensitive interventions for addressing marital issues among young adults.
