Professor Fabamwo has made significant contributions to teaching, research and community service. He has a passion for Reproductive Health especially maternal mortality reduction. Alongside other colleagues in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of LASUTH, he carried out a widely acclaimed pioneering work on a novel way of treating uterine fibroids by carrying out uterine artery ligation. One of the publications ensuing from the work in the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (the FIGO journal) won the 2005 John Sciarra award for the best scientific work from the developing world.
The new Chief Medical Director of LASUTH is not new to leadership. He has occupied several leadership positions both within and outside the shores of Nigeria. He is the Chairman, Governing Board, Institute of Fertility Medicine, LASUTH; Chairman, Elders Committee of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, LASUTH Chapter; Chairman, Lagos State Maternal Deaths Review Committee as well as the Deputy Editor in Chief, LASU Journal of Health Sciences.
Professor Fabamwo worked with the Sub-Saharan Cervical Cancer Working Group to develop an African protocol for the use of the cervical cancer vaccine. He is currently involved with the National Near Miss and Maternal Mortality Network, a Multi-Centre syndicate studying the pattern of near misses and maternal mortality in selected Nigerian tertiary maternity units. He also participated in the nationwide trial of the anti-shock garment which subsequently led to its adoption as one of the armatorium of interventions to combat obstetric haemorrhages.
Professor Fabamwo was a member of the pioneer Governing Council of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja; he was also the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Lagos State University College of Medicine, Ikeja; and a former Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State.
The new Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital is an accomplished Scholar, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist as well as an astute Administrator.
